During a quarterly meeting of the Virginia Lottery Board, it was revealed that bet365 are moving closer to announcing an official launch date and could be accepting wagers ‘very soon’.
The update was part of the board’s quarterly report which also noted the recent license approval of another UK bookmaker, betfred.
The board also released data for Virginia sports betting from January 2022 through November. According to these figures FanDuel had the largest market share of 41.08%. DraftKings followed with 23.06% with BetMGM taking third place with 18.3%. 888 had the smallest market share with just 0.07%.
BetMGM issued the most promotions throughout the year with 33.9% of all promotions attributed to its sportsbook while FanDuel issued 27.4% of all promotions in the state.
Pro basketball was the most wagered on sport in the state throughout the first 11 months of the year attracting 22.3% of all wagers. Next on the list was pro football with 15.73% of all wagers. Parlay wagers accounted for 20.7% of bets made throughout the year.
The board also gave an update on the state’s self-exclusion program revealing that 313 people self excluded in 2022 while 27 have joined the program so far in 2023. This means that there are now 514 people currently in the program.
