The latest monthly revenue report from the Virginia Lottery shows that the state’s licensed sports betting operators reported accepting a combined total of $293.8 million in wagers during the month of September.
According to the Lottery, this marks a 61% increase on the previous month’s total amount wagered. Although the start of the NFL season saw a significant increase in sports betting activity, September’s figures are still a little short of Virginia’s monthly record of $304 million set in March of this year.
September’s report also reveals that Virginian sports fans have now wagered more than $1.96 billion since the industry launch at the end of January 2021.
The state’s gamblers won a combined total of $262.9 million for the month resulting in a 10.53% win for sports betting operators, up from the 9.85% reported in the previous month. This brings the total amount won by Virginian sports fans to $1.78 billion.
The month saw operators report bonuses and promotions totaling $17.4 million and other deductions of $3.1 million. This resulted in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of $10.3 million, up 18.4% on the previous month.
As a result, four operators posted a net positive AGR for the month of September. This yielded the state taxes of $1.5 million for the month, up slightly from the $1.4 million paid in August. Since its launch in January, the sports betting industry has seen the state collect a total of $12.6 million in taxes.
The report from the Virginia Lottery includes revenues reported by nine licensed operators including Betfair Interactive US LLC (FanDuel) in partnership with the Washington Football Team, Crown Virginia Gaming LLC (Draft Kings), BetMGM LLC, Rivers Portsmouth Gaming LLC (Rivers Casino Portsmouth), Caesars Virginia LLC, WSI US, LLC (Wynn), Unibet Interactive, Inc., Penn Sports Interactive LLC., and newly licensed operator Golden Nugget.
