Maryland Gambling Revenues for March Show Slow But Steady Improvement

The Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) has released its latest monthly revenue report revealing that the state’s six licensed casinos reported combined revenues of $170.5 million for the month of March.

The latest figures mark a jump of 4.66% from February’s reported revenues of $162.9 million and a slight increase of 0.8% on the same period in 2021 when pandemic restrictions had just been lifted.

The state collected over $71.9 million in taxes during March, a jump of 1.4% year-on-year. Of this figure, $52.3 million went directly to the Education Trust Fund (ETF).

The monthly report once again gives a detailed breakdown of revenues posted by each of the state’s six casinos:

  • MGM National Harbor — $67,786,963 up 1.9% from March 2021
  • Live! Casino & Hotel — $62,085,488 up 1.6% from March 2021
  • Horseshoe Casino — $18,880,533 down 4.6% from March 2021
  • Hollywood Casino — $8,427,350 down 2.6% from March 2021
  • Ocean Downs Casino — $7,726,391 up 2.8% from March 2021
  • Rocky Gap Casino — $5,659,113 up 1% from March 2021

Sports betting revenue figures for March

Sports betting in Maryland launched on Thursday December 9th with retail sportsbooks accepting bets. However, mobile sports betting, while legal, has yet to launch.

Retail sportsbooks reported accepting over $31 million in wagers during the month of March. Payouts to gamblers amounted to just over $27 million. Combined taxable revenues for the month amounted to just over $3.8 million resulting in $577,019 in sports wagering taxes.
