According to the latest monthly revenue report from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, the state’s casinos and sports betting operators combined to generate $128.41 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) throughout the month of July.
Casino revenue
The state’s three casinos; Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor, reported combined GGR of $99 million for July. This was a drop of 1.98% compared to the $101 million reported in June.
Encore Boston Harbor was the market leader in all categories reporting monthly GGR of $61.2 million, down by 6.4% month-by-month. This resulted in state taxes of $15.3 million or 54.8% of all casino gaming taxes for July.
Meanwhile, MGM reported GGR of $23.5 million, an increase of 5.8% on the previous month’s total of $22.2. This resulted in $5.8 million in taxes. Plainridge reported $13.8 million from its slots only facility, $1 million more than the previous month. This resulted in taxes of $6.7 million due to its tax rate of 49%.
Overall, the state collected $27.9 million in taxes from casino gaming and $86,421 from retail sports betting at the casinos. This brings the total collected from casinos during July to just over $28 million. As a result, the state has now collected over $1.487 billion in taxes from casinos alone since the industry launched.
Sports Wagering Revenue
According to the report the state’s retail and mobile sports betting operators combined to generate $29.4 million in taxable sports wagering revenue (TSWR) during July. This was a drop of 8.7% month-on-month.

Since the launch of mobile sports betting in Massachusetts during March, the state has now collected $45.81 million in taxes.

July is the first month that the Gaming Commission has released detailed monthly revenue data for DFS operators in the state.
