New Jersey Sports Betting Smashes All-Time Record in January

Sportsbooks drive 28% growth in gambling sector. 97% of bets made online

The latest monthly revenue report from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has revealed that combined gambling revenues for the month of January came to $559.1 million.

The latest figures represent an increase of 7.06% on the previous month’s total of $522.2 million and a 28% increase on the total reported in January 2024.

Casino Win

Land-based casinos in New Jersey reported revenues of $205 million, down by 3.1% year-on-year and 11.79% compared to the month of December’s total of $232.4 million.

For the month of January, three of the state’s nine casinos reported increases in casino win year-on-year.

  • Ocean Casino – $33 million – up 8.3%
  • Hard Rock – $37.3 million – up 3.9%
  • Golden Nugget – $11.2 million – up 2.3%

The six casinos that reported a decrease in revenues were:

  • Borgata – $57.6 million – down 1.2%
  • Bally’s – $10 million – down 12.8%
  • Caesars – $15.5 million – down 7.8%
  • Harrah’s – $15.9 million – down 20.9%
  • Tropicana – $13.3 million – down 18.1%
  • Resorts – $10.9 million – down 1.4%

Internet Gaming

The month of January saw New Jersey’s iGaming operators report $183.3 million in combined revenues. This was an increase of 1.6% on the previous month’s total and a 19.9% increase on the $72.3 million reported in January 2023.

Sports Betting

New Jersey sports betting operators reported accepting a record $1.7 billion in wagers throughout the month of January. This beats the all-time record of $1.3 billion set in October 2021.

Of that figure, $1.67 billion of the month’s sports wagers were placed through online sportsbooks with the retail sector taking in $47.6 million.

Sports betting revenue came to $170.7 million marking a 136.1% increase year-on-year. This was another state record beating the previous record of $114.8 million set in November 2021.
