Online licenses do not need to be tethered to a land-based gambling license holder.

Daily Fantasy Sports in Ohio

In December 2017, Ohio’s then Governor John Kasich signed HB132 that legalized Daily Fantasy Sports in the state. The law allowed for contests in all sports with the exception of horse racing and college sports or any sporting events featuring minors.

Operators are not required to pay tax on any income but must pay an annual license fee of $10,000.

In 2018, the Ohio Casino Gaming Control Commission took control of the industry and issued licenses to five operators.

These are:

  • Fantasy Golf’s OG

What About Online Poker in Ohio?

While there are live poker rooms in Ohio’s casinos there has been no legislation passed that allows or regulates online poker or casino games. There have been no moves to introduce relevant legislation in recent years. However, following the successful approval of sports betting legislation, it should be only a matter of time before online casino gaming is discussed by the state’s lawmakers.
