The latest monthly revenue report from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has revealed that the state’s licensed sports betting operators accepted $750.4 million in wagers throughout the month of December.
The latest figures mark a slight drop of 1.45% on November’s sports betting handle and the second month in a row that betting activity dropped from the previous month. December’s handle was the third highest of 2021 and brings the financial year-to-date total to $3.5 billion and the calendar year total for 2021 to $6.1 billion.
Mobile sports betting was accounted for the majority of sports betting in the state as PA online sportsbooks reported accepting $693.3 million in wagers, a drop of just over $10 million from the previous month. Online revenue for the month dropped by 53.86% to $35.2 million.
Meanwhile, retail sportsbooks accepted $57.1 million, a slight drop from the $57.5 million reported in November. Despite a minimal drop in activity, retail revenues dropped significantly from $8.6 million in November to just $2.7 million in December.
Both retail and mobile sports betting operators generated combined taxable revenues of $18.8 million, dropping by 70.44% on the previous month’s revenues. This resulted in sports wagering taxes of $6.4 million paid to the state.
Valley Forge Casino remains the sports betting market leader reporting a combined retail and mobile sports betting handle of $249.7 million. Its nearest competitor, Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, reported an overall handle of just over $206.4 million.
